Privacy Policy

At Canadian Imperial Advantage (CIA) we recognize the importance of privacy and the sensitivity of personal information received by us in the course of our operations. This policy has been developed with this understanding in mind.

The goal of CIA’s Privacy Policy is to promote responsible and transparent personal information management practices in a manner consistent with the provisions of the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and other applicable privacy legislation.

1. Collection, Consent, Use and Disclosure of Personal Information

We collect and use information to establish and serve you as our client.

We require information to:

  • Understand, access and assist our clients with ongoing needs;
  • Ensure information is accurate and up-to-date;
  • Providing credit lending services; and
  • Facilitate communications, process and evaluate loans and other reasonable purposes consistent with the objectives of CIA

What information do we collect?

Personal information – refers to information about an identifiable individual. In Alberta, business contact information such as your job title, business phone number, email address, office address, fax number or other related business contact details is not considered personal information.

Further, these terms do not include information that does not identify particular individuals, like aggregate statistics or anonymous data, or information which is available to the public, as specified in applicable laws.

The types of personal information that CIA may collect about an individual include, but are not limited to the following: Persons Name, business name house address, telephone number, personal email address, and billing and account information.

The nature and amount of information we collect depends on the service you have requested from us. For every client we serve, we need your contact information. For loan clients, we require more information than we require from our other business clients.

How do we collect your personal information?

We collect personal information in accordance with the provisions of PIPA. Wherever possible we collect personal information directly from individuals. However, it may be necessary to make directed individual requests for relevant sensitive personal information from a particular business or organization, such as financial institutions. If we need to make a request on behalf of the client, we will obtain consent before collecting this information. Consent may be written, verbal or implied as necessary to fulfill the necessary requirements.

Consent

PIPA provides that an individual is deemed to consent to the collection, use or disclosure of personal information about that individual for a particular purpose if the individual willingly provides the information for that purpose, and it is reasonable that a person would willingly provide that information.

There are certain circumstances where CIA is required or permitted by law, to collect, use and disclose personal information without consent. Such circumstances include, but are not limited to situations where:

CIA will handle all personal information confidentially and will substantiate the legal authority to collect, use and disclose personal information in these circumstances. Furthermore, we will make reasonable efforts to ensure that the information we collect is accurate and complete, and secure.

Use

CIA will use personal information to provide services to clients and to administer our business. With an individual’s consent, we may send you information about our other services, or about upcoming events and new programs we may have to offer. An individual may at any time withdraw permission by notifying us, and we will not send any further materials.

Disclosure

It is CIA’s policy not to disclose or sell personal information or business contact information to any third party to enable them to market their products or services.

2. Protection (Safeguarding information)

We recognize our obligations to protect the confidential information of our clients. We further recognize our obligations to safeguard the personal information we have gathered about our clients and about other individuals during the course of our business. We have therefore made arrangements to secure against the unauthorized collection, use, access, disclosure, modification, copying, disposal or destruction of personal information.

3. Accessing your personal information

Any individual may request access to your personal information by directing a written request to CIA’s privacy officer, as identified below.

CIA will respond to in the time allowed under PIPA. Furthermore, we are permitted by law to charge a reasonable fee for retrieval and copying of personal information; notification of the amount to be communicated prior to us completing the request.

Please note that we may not be able to provide information about you from our records if it contains references to other persons, is subject to legal privilege, contains information proprietary to CIA, is too costly to retrieve, or cannot be disclosed for other legal reasons.

4. Revisions to Personal Information

We will make every reasonable effort to keep our client’s information accurate and up-to-do. If you find any errors in our information about you, please send us the correction in writing by mail or e-mail. We will make appropriate corrections and make sure that such corrections are communicated to anyone we may have misinformed. For information that remains in dispute, we will note down that a correction was requested.

5. Information Regarding Website Practices and Cookies

Cookies

Cookies are an important part of how the Internet works today, and they allow web servers to recognize your computer’s browser when you return. When you enter our site, a cookie is set on your hard drive so that our site can be easily located by your browser on future visits. We may review and change our Privacy Statement from time to time in order to update our privacy commitment to you in keeping with current privacy laws.
